Empowering Tribal Women through Collective Entrepreneurship
Across many tribal communities in India women are increasingly stepping forward to shape their own economic future. With determination collective effort and the right institutional support small ideas are being transformed into sustainable livelihood opportunities. One such inspiring story comes from a SelfHelp Group that established a small hotel and food service business with financial assistance under the NSTFDC Micro Credit Finance MCF Loan Scheme. The members of the Lakshmi Bai Bachat Gat SHG PostSakharshet PostJewhar District Palghar Maharashtra always shared a common aspiration—to start a business that would provide regular income for their families while also serving the needs of the local community. However lack of financial resources made it difficult to turn their plans into reality. Through the support of the NSTFDC MCF Loan Scheme the group received the necessary financial assistance to establish their hotel. The loan enabled them to purchase essential cooking equipment utensils raw materials and basic infrastructure required to run the business.Today the small hotel has become a reliable place where villagers and travellers can enjoy fresh and affordable meals. More importantly it has become a symbol of confidence teamwork and financial independence for the members of the Self Help Group. One of the members proudly shares: "Earlier we depended only on seasonal income. With this hotel business we now have a stable source of earnings for our families." Another member adds: "This opportunity has given us confidence. Today we are not only supporting our families but also inspiring other women in our community." This success story reflects how NSTFDC’s initiatives are empowering tribal women through entrepreneurship enabling them to build sustainable livelihoods and move towards a future of dignity and selfreliance.
